When children first start Infant School they continue in the Early Years Foundation Stage. Children are provided with opportunities to achieve “The Early Learning Goals” which seek to provide every child with a breadth of experiences to help them make sense of later learning. These include experimenting, investigating, and making sense of the world around them through play. In our reception classes children also have a Phonics and a Numeracy session every day. As children complete the Early Learning Goals they progress onto the National Curriculum.
National Curriculum 2014
At Pinxton Village Infant Schools we now follow the statutory guidance contained in the National Curriculum 2014.We have created our own programmes of study, which cover the content required.
Everyday children learn in streamed phonics and maths sessions, followed by a class literacy based session. In 2015 we improved the organisation of teaching and learning, in the afternoons, by asking each teacher to deliver 1 foundation subject to each of the classes in school. This means that all the children enjoy specialised teaching from teachers excited about the curriculum area in which they have responsibility.
Due to the organisation of classes there is a 2 yearly cycle in place for all year groups.
