At Longwood Infant School, P.E. is taught on site.
At John King infant School, children use the PASS centre at Kirkstead Junior School to do gymnastics. The Village Hall is used to do games and dance. When the weather improves, extensive use is also made of the playground.
Although there is an element of competition involved in our PE sessions, the children are encouraged to do their personal best and to work hard on improving their skills. We practise fundamental skills such as balance, agility and coordination. We also practise running, jumping, throwing and catching. Whilst specific skills are taught, we also aim to make PE fun and accessible to all and a number of games are included in all sessions. The children are encouraged to reflect on the importance of exercise to keep healthy and learn to recognise the signs that their body has been physically active.
We have used Sport's Premium funding to extend opportunities and experiences for the children during lesson time. Our PE teacher is able to use these sessions to further enhance other provision across school. Children have enjoyed 'specialist' coaches such as in Football, Dance, Basketball and Cricket. The children also take part in 'Festivals' and 'Competitions' with other schools, including the disability sport - Boccia, and gymnastics.
